Happy Birthday, my favourite Parliamentarian! – By Saria Benazir

7 Jul

Lettering the name of Farahnaz Ispahani, I refer to the woman, who never falls short to engross me, for the very first thing that socks one’s psyche is audacity , fidelity, humility, graciousness and sacrifice – she signifies all of them. Nevertheless, I am also duty-bound to gaze at the other end of this tremendously “polite” character – She is also the “Iron Lady” of Pakistan, for it is certainly not plausible for me at least to put down the lid to all the privations, which she has undergone for Pakistan, and for the stability of a democratic process in Pakistan – even the strongest man at her place would undeniably have given up, long ago, but she persists her battle for a progressive and tolerant Pakistan, the Pakistan which was envisaged by our martyred leaders, Quaid e Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and Shaheed Mohtarmah Benazir Bhutto – But of course, she has inherited all these attributes – after all, she is the grand daughter of Pakistan’s first ambassador to the United States of America, Mirza Abol Hassan Ispahani, and the niece of “Madr – e – Jamhooriat” Nusrat Bhutto Ispahani. She is also the wife of the heroic son of the soil, Husain Haqqani – Courage and devotion is a component of her blood.

Pakistanis obliged to Miss Ispahani’s family, which stood by this country at the nastiest seconds of narration and she herself is a living testimony of that. The services of her family forPakistanare unrivaled. Her grandfather, a close aide of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah provided his own mansion in the United States for Pakistan’s Embassy to manage the fiscal limitations, the country was going through – an owning that costs billions of dollars today! It was also Farahnaz’s family who contributed their airplanes in the Orient Airlines to form the Pakistan International Airlines. Never mind, the foremost salaries of the Pakistani workforces were rewarded from her grandfather’s pouch – Certainly, worth a compliment!

Farahnaz’s loyalty to the ideals of the Bhutto-ism is not a substance of grilling and the entire world is a spectator to her unshakable binder to the Pakistan Peoples Party, and the people of Pakistan, in conjunction with enduring numerous adversities for her beliefs. Perhaps, I cannot snub the tears in her eyes, and the sensation of heartache while remembering Benazir Bhutto Shaheed. In the same eyes, I saw affection for Bakhtawar, Aseefa and Bilawal, unerringly like her own children. Her aunt, Nusrat Bhutto (Benazir Bhutto’s mother) faced incarcerations, lashes, exiles and spurious corruption charges – the “judicial murder” of her remarkably enigmatic husband, and two young sons left her the prey of Alzheimer’s ; she lost her “Pinky”, but remained naïve to the fact that her daughter dwells under the soil of Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto. Late Nusrat Bhutto was an archetype of a “Living Martyr” on the surface of the earth. The legacy continues, and this day, Farahnaz prolongs her struggle against the same vile forces of chauvinism and totalitarianism – she has attempted the hardest to avert the attrition of this burgeoning democracy of ours.

Farahnaz Ispahani is perhaps, the only gallant voice in the Parliament of Pakistan, which has condemned the atrocious killings of the minorities inPakistan– the ethnic cleansing of the Shias, and the deprivation of the Christians and Ahmedi communities. When others were apprehensive of the corollaries, she spoke fervently after the assassination of Shaheed Salmaan Taseer, and the Minorities’ Minister, Shaheed Shahbaz Bhatti, both of whom lost their lives in their venture to perk up the dismal living conditions of the minorities in this country. She is a quintessence of humanity and peace, and has always stood by the derelict and demoralized sections of the society. Farahnaz Ispahani continues to enthuse millions with her ardent struggle.

An enormously enthralling personality, Farahnaz is eulogized by friends and foes alike. Extremely congenial, she occupies an inimitable place in the hearts of the people – something that has always remained the hallmark of the PPP’s leadership. Her concern for the afflictions of the downtrodden and that of the party workers remains unparalleled. Fighting the unsubstantiated memo gate, and the recent baseless dual nationality issue, she surfaces exceedingly tall as a paradigm of a woman, who has rejected to be panic-stricken by these radical and authoritarian forces. History will always quote her name in the golden books: she remains a sparkle of optimism and forbearance among all the disenchantments. The enterprising daughter of the soil makesPakistan proud.

“To such a world of conflict, a world of victims, and executions, it is the job of thinking people not to be on the side of the executioners.” – Albert Camus
