BHUTTO – The chronicle does not originate here, nor is it the termination. It has become an interminable marvel now, from the Himalayas to the Arabian, the catchphrases of “Jeyay Bhutto” slot in the vibes, and distend from one curve of the orb to the other. Ahh! What an illustrious remembrance, for certain – After 33 years too, the soil of Garhi Khuda Bux remains an enticement for the aficionados of social equality – for me, it subsists as my political idol, for the red in this soil catches to my empathy: the crimson boulevards, which remain a witness to the Bhuttos’ unswerving fidelity to the people of Pakistan: They initiate to whittle the history – an indelible one, and an enduring one!

Lady, you are penning about “Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto” – the Lion King, the greatest we ever had, and whose reminiscence would be esteemed till eternity: no analogous to his chivalry, the man, who made the strongest ones clog: the enormity of his disposition, the entity had a throng in one, and the crowds were all his – Intrepid, and captivating, he pierced into the public, his assurance to provide “Bread, Clothing & Shelter” to all, with the PPP’s assertion of the principles: “Islam is our religion. Democracy is our policy. Socialism is our economy. All power to the people”, and that indubitably, martyrdom is our purpose: made his voice the undivided one – one that reflected the chuck of the Pakistani population, and gave veneration to their yearnings, along with feeling their anguishes: the awful living conditions of a Pakistani lay man, who at that very instant was hungry, naked and shelter less: I write about the Pakistan that did not exist by the conclusion of year 1971.

Quote it as a sacrilege or tag me as a deserter, I term Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, as the FOUNDER of PAKISTAN, not merely the Pakistan Peoples Party. Interrogate it from a farmer, a laborer, a student, a woman and the browbeaten ones of the land – they are there to riposte you: Shaheed Bhutto gave them intonation, he turned them into the first class citizens of the society, after being treated as chattel by the dictators: Bhutto gave Pakistan an identity, and this white and green flag a recognition. “We have to gather pieces, very small pieces and make a new Pakistan” – it was Bhutto, the peoples’ leader who saved Pakistan after being utterly wrecked at the hands of a military dictator – the General, who never knew the whereabouts of thousands of soldiers, and the vicinity of hundreds of thousands of miles of land as well. Fortuitously, they do not forget maintaining the records of their bungalows, and of course, their princes kin! Pakistan and the commoners – a low priority matter, indeed.

History never forgets its heroes, so would Shaheed Bhutto be always remembered as the champion of the peoples’ rights – the splendid star, who familiarized the Asian continent to the perception of democracy and equality of human race. As the leader of Pakistan, he never forgot Kashmir, for in his words; they were a part of Pakistan in flesh, in blood and in soul. His tenacious stand on the Kashmir issue distinguishes him as the undisputed voice of the demoralized section of mankind, and his firm adherence to the ideology of Pakistan. We shall fight a thousand years to liberate Kashmir and we shall eat grass, but we will make an atomic bomb.”

No one else could ever gather enough mettle to speak in the United Nations Security Council, as Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto did : “My country hearkens for me – Why should I waste my time here in the Security Council”. He could articulate this gallantly, because BHUTTO WAS A PAKISTANI and he did make Pakistan a nuclear power. His heart throbbed with that of his people; and he did it, without fearing for the consequences of being made the worst example. Nevertheless, history made him an illuminating instance of heroism, devotion and democracy.

I did not kill that man. My God is aware of it. I am big enough to admit if I had done it, that admission would have been less of an ordeal and humiliation than this barbarous trial which no self respecting man can endure. I am a Muslim. A Muslim’s fate is in the hands of God Almighty I can face Him with a clear conscience and tell Him that I rebuilt His Islamic State of Pakistan from ashes into a respectable Nation. I am entirely at peace with my conscience in this black hole of Kot Lakhpat. I am not afraid of death. You have seen what fires I have passed through.”
April 4, 1979 : A dictator craved to draft the narrations on the verdicts of the kangaroo courts –  oblivious of the actuality that this history would need no pens, it would mark itself on the very land, where he would be assassinated. Bhutto was declared guilty by the apex court of Pakistan, but does this elucidate for millions who gather several times at Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto, every year and chant, “Zinda Hai Bhutto, Zinda Hai”… Bhutto Zinda Hai, in the hearts, and psyches of his people, who regard Pakistan deficient without Bhutto-ism, which is the only way out for the prosperity of this country. Undoubtedly, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto passed on that celebrated name and the present of peoples power to his beloved Benazir, who fought the same courts till her martyrdom, and just like her father, laid down her life for her people…

Pakistan Peoples Party is a legacy, and the legacy subsists – Red history, which darkens further on every April 4 and December 27 : the world heeds, Har gar say Bhutto niklay gaa, tum kitnay Bhutto maro gay… in prisons, or on boulevards?

“They are going to kill me. It doesn’t matter what evidence you or anyone comes up with. They are going to murder me for murder I didn’t commit.” This remains the precedent of the “Supreme Court “ of Pakistan. Isn’t it sufficient attestation for why we do chant “Meri raza, teri raza, Yousuf Raza”… The Pakistan Peoples Party – Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave this country the constitution, I bet the courts weren’t enlightened enough to perform this hefty job!

“You cannot be big unless you are prepared to kiss the ground. You cannot defend the soil unless you know the smell of that soil. I know the smell of our soil. I know the rhythm of our rivers. I know the beat of our drums.” After spending those eleven and a half years in prison fighting the bogus corruption charges, losing his wife and his children’s mother, and being the only shoulder to cry on for the dejected and the marginalized of the society, who knows this earth, better than Zardari? This is why we believe that for an egalitarian and prosperous Pakistan,

Jab Tak Souraj Chand rehay ga, Bhutto teray naam rehay ga…
